Started my "black out" project this afternoon.

I took out all cargo expanse chrome window trim off and replaced it with the "D" shaped GM window gasket and also removed the chrome gutter trim from the roof as well.

Can't actually seem to find a good thread in removing/replacing the chrome window trim so I've decided to take information technology off and spray it satin blackness.

How practise does the trim come up off around the window frame ? Would I be able to re-install it once removed ?

I've heard of a "euro" versions of the window trim that does not have chrome but never followed up on information technology. I'one thousand as well interested in doing this.

How did you remove the trim from the roof?? Does information technology just pull off??

How was the condition of the area under that office of the trim?? Rust??

How are y'all going to handle it??

Just pulls right off. Takes mere seconds

Under both of my CA trucks in that location was simply dirt, no rust at all.

Simply pull information technology off. It comes off very easy. The lower slice is office of the seal and that wont come off.

Talking about the chrome around the window frame, once you become it started information technology comes off like shooting fish in a barrel, and information technology is just paint underneath (provided at that place is no rust). The pieces forth the bottom of the window where yous would rest your arm with the window open can be replaced with early fj60 rubber pieces that snap into holes revealed when you remove the chrome strips. You may need to address paint issues though.

All i did to remove the roof line chrome trim was pull it correct off. I didn't bother worrying almost rust because if it was at that place, id rather expose it and bargain with it afterwards than pretend its non there because I dont see information technology.

Luckily for me the roof line was perfect and there weren't whatever pigment issues or rust underneath the trim except clay and crud which cleaned off easily subsequently I took the car through the car wash.

For those of yous interested in doing the blackness condom gasket mod, DO Information technology.

I made the install of mine MUCH easier by using a bicycle tire lever and some WD-40. Full install time for all 3 rear cargo windows appox. ane.five hrs. My first window took the longest as it was my first fourth dimension and also started off with a flat caput screw commuter but and then the low-cal bulb went off in my head!

So if I'm understanding what you all are saying well-nigh the window trim, its only an add on slice? I can just pull the sides/height off and leave information technology like that?

I'll I'd have to do is remove the trim, clean the frame and pull the lesser one off and paint, right?

Yeah, it is but a couple of snap on pieces. Mine deformed when I took it off, and then make sure y'all really don't desire it before you remove it.

Will the rubber seals still be held in identify correctly without the metal trim?

I don't desire any unnecessary leaks by removing those pieces.

Nowadays though I work full time in the entertainment globe. :meh:

But means less time to read, learn and do.
